About Art Speak

  • What is Art Speak?

Art Speak is a High School museum internship program aimed at promoting the arts, developing leadership skills, and extending Krannert's outreach to the greater Champaign County communities. The only qualifications for Art Speak are a creative mind, a sense of adventure, the ability to think for one's self and lead others, and a commitment to following things through. Each year, Art Speak provides creative students from Rantoul Township High School an opportunity to learn about, reinterpret, and teach about Krannert Art Museum's multi-cultural art.

  • Working with the Krannert staff, these students work together and individually to prepare and perform musical, verbal, and visual art work to share with each other and the greater community through SPEAK Cafe. The students participate in SPEAK Cafe, an open mic, hip hop event held once a month on Thursday evenings at the Krannert Art Museum. They also visit Krannert to help facilitate Kids Krannert, where they lead fun art projects at the children's art activity tables. These art projects are developed by the Art Speak students with help from the Krannert staff and were open to the public. Art Speak is a very successful program that continues to develop as it takes on new students with new ideas and experiences. We all look forward to seeing what will be next!
